Welcome

“Be BIGGER, Better and Bolder.”

That is the challenge issued to Rotary Clubs this year by Rotary International President Ray Klinginsmith (in the picture with me at left).  And it falls right in line for Reno South Rotary, building on our proud 37 year heritage of service and fellowship:

BIGGER

Our club is growing, even in challenging times, because Nevada leaders are drawn to Reno South’s commitment to the compelling Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”  Our members are forward thinking, community-minded, ethical, fun-loving and willing to work hard to provide a helping hand for those in need.  If you’re visiting our website and thinking about joining Rotary, I invite you to come see for yourself.  Email me at joelrotary@yahoo.com and I will personally buy your lunch at the Atlantis this Thursday, so you can meet our club members and learn what we’re all about.

Better

Reno South is a great time!  Our traditions of fellowship include wine tasting trips, family tailgates and picnics, vocational tours, holiday parties, and mystery bus excursions.  This year, we’re also introducing “Last Wednesday,” a monthly no-agenda cocktail hour where members and spouses can get together for a visit and some fun. Reno South Rotary is a place where lifelong friends are made in the process of helping others.

Bolder

Service will be the most exciting element of 2010-11. Locally, we’ll be strengthening our award-winning partnership for literacy with Anderson School and building our Most Improved Student scholarship program.  We are maintaining our commitment to Ahghan children through Pens for Peace. We’ll continue to join other clubs in finding support for polio eradication. And Reno South has taken on the ambitious cause of funding and building computer labs and clean water stations for impoverished children in rural Mexico orphananges.  This March, our club will travel to Colima to complete the projects and participate in a literacy week.

Add it all up and this promises to be a banner year for Reno South… but more importantly for the children, both here in our community and around the world, who stand to benefit from our club’s teamwork.  As Rotary founder Paul Harris said nearly one hundred years ago, The power of combined effort knows no limitation.” I am so proud of all the things we are accomplishing at Reno South, and encourage you to rekindle your commitment to Rotarian ideals.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Joel
