About Us

Reno South Rotary
A Brief History
Reno South Rotary was chartered June 21, 1973. It took some real political maneuvering to get things going. The Reno Rotary Club thought two clubs, the Reno and Sparks clubs, were enough for this community. The Reno Rotary Club controlled the decisions as to whether we would be chartered. Though originally against the idea, they eventually agreed.
Harry Massoth was the Charter President of Reno South Rotary, (Harry was a Rotarian for over 50 years!). There were 27 original Charter members that first year, just enough members to fill all the jobs necessary to run a Rotary Club.
In nearly 32 years since Reno South Rotary has taken its place as an organization providing outstanding leadership and community service to our area. We support or have supported the following programs: Most Improved Student recognition program in Washoe County area high schools, Asthma Camp for Kids, Nevada Children’s Diabetes Association’s Camp Buck, Anderson Elementary School, UNR ROTC and TMCC Scholarship Funds, Robinhood Park reconstruction and maintenance, Harry Massoth Dental Fund, YMCA, Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program, Boy Scouts of America, Career Coaches, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, A Taste of Reno Tahoe, Hot Air Balloon Races, High Sierra Industries, and a Pure Water Project in China.

In addition, Reno South Rotary financially supports various International Service projects such as Polio Plus, Polio Eradication and Project Amigo. The Polio Plus and Eradication projects supported efforts worldwide in the detection of and eradication of this deliberating childhood disease. Only a small handful of central African nations still need assistance to eliminate this disease forever. Project Amigo provides daily essentials for life and the opportunity for an education to impoverished youth in Mexico.
Pens for Peace works to educate children in Afghanistan through donations of schoold supplies coordinated with our military and civilian efforts with the US State Department. The China Water Project helps develop clean water for remote Chinese villages. All with the coordination of local Rotary Clubs.
Reno South Rotary is committed to the originating concept of Service Above Self and ethical treatment of all human beings in all vocations using the Four Way Test to guide our personal and business life. Reno South seeks young community leaders to join our club and associate with themselves with other Reno South Rotarians that want to enhance to quality of life here in the Reno Sparks area, regionally, district wide and internationally.
Reno south meets weekly at the Atlantis Hotel/Casino at noon on Thursday’s. Come and visit!
